Christopher V. Edwards
Associate Artistic Director and Director of Education and Apprentice Training
Chris is a director, actor and educator and has been with the Festival for 14 years. He has acted in London’s West End, Off-Broadway, internationally and in regional theaters. As a director, he is motivated by classical plays with contemporary resonance and contemporary plays that exhibit classical scope.
Chris has made a name for himself as an interpreter of Shakespeare’s plays, plays of the Hip-Hop theater movement, and plays from the African diaspora, always with an eye towards reaching out to youth and under-served audiences. He has directed at HERE Arts Center, Capital Rep., Geva Theater, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Vermont Stage Co., Lincoln Center’s “Meet the Artists” Program, St. Michael’s Playhouse, Nevada Conservatory Theater, and The National Theatre of Norway.
Although Chris has a lifelong love for the works of William Shakespeare he has focused much of his directing on contemporary plays and the development of new works. New works include: Last Gas and Love/Sick by John Cariani; How to Break by Aaron Jafferis; Innaviews by Kwik Step and Anna Garcia; I Have Before Me A Remarkable Document Given To Me By A Young Lady From Rwanda by Sonia Linden; Shakespeare the Remix by Aaron Jafferis;Bomb-itty of Errors by Erik Weiner, GQ, JQ, Jordan Allen Dutton, Jason Catalano, Andy Goldberg; The Drowned World by Gary Owen; Master Harold…and the Boys by Athol Fugard; Seven Guitars by August Wilson; Arcadia by Tom Stoppard; Around the World in 80 Days by Mark Brown and The Three Musketeers by Ken Ludwig.
Other classical directing work includes: Hamlet; Julius Caesar; A Winter’s Tale; Macbeth; Romeo and Juliet; Othello; The Taming of the Shrew; A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth.
He has also choreographed many fights Off-Broadway, in regional theaters and with colleges and universities.
Chris has been an adjunct professor at Montclair State University BFA Acting Program and the Bennington College Drama Department. Chris lives in Hoosick Falls, NY with his wife Jennifer and daughter Anya.
